What is Data Loader?

How to Install Salesforce Data Loader.

Installing Data Loader and setting up Data loader require small knowledge on generating security tokens. Before installing Data loader in Windows Operating system and MacOS we have to check system requirements.

System requirements for Windows.

• Data loader is compatible with windows*7, windows*8 and windows*10.
• Minimum 120 MB of disk space.
• Minimum 256 MB RAM.
• Must have Java JRE 1.8 installed.

• macOS EI Capitan or later.

Installing Salesforce Data Loader in Local system.

After checking all system requirement we have to install salesforce data loader in our local system. Follow the steps given below to install salesforce data loader.

1. Download Data loader from Salesforce.
2. Generate security Token.
3. Installing Data Loader in macOS or Windows Operating system.
4. Enter username and password.

Downloading Data Loader from Salesforce.

Data loader can be downloaded from data management. Go to Data Management Data Loader.

• Click on Data Loader and select the Operating system to which you want to download.
• Now Apex Data Loader will download in to our local system.
• Install latest Java version in to your local system.
• Now install Salesforce Data Loader.

When we try login into Salesforce.com using data loader we have to options.

1. OAuth.
2. Password Authentication.

Option 1 :- Salesforce login through OAuth.

• When we select OAuth option.
• Now select the Environment. (Production or Sandbox).
• Click on Login.
• Now a new pop window will be opened where we have to login into Salesforce.com account using username and password.
• Now a verification code will be sent to your account email.
• Enter verification code and click on Login.

• Click on Allow button to access as shown above.

Option 2 :- Login through Password Authentication.

• Select password Authentication as shown above.
• Enter username and Password.
• Click on Login.

Where password is the combination of Salesforce account password and Security Token.

• Now add Security Token after password.

Password = Password + Security Token.

Generating Security Token.

What is Security Token in Salesforce?

Security Token in Salesforce is a case sensitive alphanumeric key that is used with salesforce account password to access Salesforce via API.

How to generate Security Token?

To generate security token in salesforce go to My Settings Personal Rest my security Token.

When we click on Reset my security token an Email will be sent to the email address of our account. To log in to Salesforce via API we have to enter username and password.

• You can only load csv files with up to 50,000 records (if you are an admin, 500 if you just a regular user).

2) Apex Data Loader

Pros:

• It’s free and was developed by Salesforce.com.
• Good for importing files with up to 5 million records.
• Good for loading data into objects where there is no wizard.
• It saves your mappings.
• It has scheduling and exporting abilities.

Cons:

• It only works for Enterprise Edition and above (does not work with Group Edition or Professional Edition unless you buy the API separately).
• It’s designed for Salesforce admins but to some admins, it has too simple an interface.
• You need to download the app and it only works for Windows machines.

3) Force.com Excel Connector

Pros:

• It’s free!
• It’s great for those who love Excel
• It’s handy for bi-directional movement of records and loading small batches
• It works on Professional Edition and above

Cons:

• It’s open source and not officially supported.
• Newer versions of Windows and Excel 64 Bit can be problematic.
• It has a separate download and excel add-in for each edition (PE, EE, UE).

4) DemandTools

Pros:

• It’s a powerful tool for data loading, but also has a suite of tools for data quality.
• It works on Professional Edition and above.

Cons:

• It’s not free, but the ROI is there for those admins looking for a data quality toolset.
• It’s an on-premise app for Windows only.

5) Jitterbit Data Loader for Salesforce

Pros:

• It’s a free tool provided by a 3rd party developer.
• It works on all Salesforce Editions.
• It’s a nice looking UI with a powerful toolset.
• It’s popular and has good reviews on the AppExchange.
• It runs on PC or Mac.
• It supports multiple org logins.

Cons:

• It’s an on-premise app.
• The developer is hoping you’ll graduate to their full real-time integration tool so you will likely be included in their marketing efforts.
• It’s not supported. Look to the community for answers.
